What Does UPF Mean?

UPF stands for Ultra Violet Protection and is used to show how much UV light is blocked by a fabric.

Cotton is a very bad UV blocker. A lightweight summer T shirt may only have a UPF of 15, if it gets wet it blocks even fewer UV rays and may become only a UPF 5!

Heavy denim is an excellant blocker but not really practical for hot weather or beach wear.

Lightweight, breathable fabric with a tight weave that blocks 97% of all UV rays is best as it's comfortable, breaths well and drys quickly.
