The journey of a thousand miles begins with 1 step. One small act each day, will help to conserve water, save energy or reduce waste, over time will make a big difference.

Here are few idea to get you started water-footprint.jpg

 Save Water

The silent seeper.

A leaky toilet may go unnoticed, as will the extra cash absorbed by your water bill. To check for leaks, add enough food coloring to your toilet tank to really brighten the water. After 30 minutes, look to see if any of the dye has leaked into the bowl.

Every flush counts

An estimated 30% of household water usage is flushed down the toilet. If your toilet is more than 30 years old, upgrading to a low-consumption toilet can save you up to 4 gallons per flush.

You'll use a lot less water if you only run your laundry or dishwasher with a full load. Running two half loads uses twice as much water.

Printer Cartridge Recycling

    1. It takes 3 oz. of oil to make an inkjet toner cartridge and 3 quarts of oil to make a laser toner cartridge.

    1. Over 38,000 tons of plastic and metal are saved from landfills in the U.S. each year due to cartridge recycling.

    1. In just 7 months, cartridge recycling would save 11 million gallons of oil—more than what was spilled by Exxon Valdez in Alaska in 1989.

  1. 92% of inkjet cartridges and 60% of laser cartridges are not recycled…but could be.

  • Reduce Purchases: In general, think before you buy any product - do you really need it? How did the production of this product impact the environment and what further impacts will there be with the disposal of the product (and associated packaging materials)? When you are thinking about buying something, try the 30-Day Rule -- wait 30 days after the first time you decide you want a product to really make your decision. This will eliminate impulse buying.
